Laura Jean - Amateurs, White Vinyl LP
Laura Jean’s Amateurs (2022) is a tender and introspective album that examines the complexities of creativity, love, and vulnerability. Released on Chapter Music and pressed on elegant white vinyl, it pairs shimmering arrangements with Laura Jean’s intimate vocals and poetic lyricism. Both modern and timeless, Amateurs stands as a beautifully crafted work for listeners who cherish depth and emotional resonance.
Laura collaborated with producer Tim Bruniges during Sydney’s extended 2020–2021 lockdowns. Erkki Veltheim (Gurrumul, Cat Power) crafted stunning string arrangements for the album, which were recorded in Melbourne by Devotion producer John Lee.
Amateurs explores anti-art and anti-intellectual culture in Australia, though its themes resonate globally. The album finds Laura reflecting on her role as a songwriter and the realities of choosing art over other aspects of life. At the same time, it is a warm, humorous, and sonically breathtaking work.
