Jerrah Patston - Abandoned Cricket Games, Vinyl LP

Beloved in his local Blue Mountains, Jerrah Patston writes songs possessed of a beautiful naivety, boiling down each subject to his own inimitable view.

Jerrah has an ear for a catchy melody and the unusual ability to communicate the universal through the very specific.

Writing in detail about daily life, Jerrah’s songs find the listener relating to thoughts about dodgem cars, Wings, construction sites and ten-pin bowling they did not realise they shared.

A legendarily spontaneous live performer, each moment on stage with Jerrah has no future or past, drawing audiences right into the moment.

His third LP, Abandoned Cricket Games, was recorded over two days at Frying Pan Studios in Berriedale, Tasmania, using the ex-Abbey Road REDD.17 recording console.

The album features Jerrah on vocals, percussion and melodica, backed by collaborators Sam Worrad (guitar) and Aether Tabris (piano). It is releasing on Darren Hanlon’s Flippin Yeah Records on Saturday August 9.

The album gorgeously documents minor catastrophes (and occasional triumphs…), in the classic tradition of folk-rock songs about disaster and disappointment.

The striking cover is by Nic Dalton.

The LP is Jerrah's third full-length collection, and it traverses cancelled sporting fixtures (the title track), Scottish festivals (Bagpipers In The Carpark), seeing Paul McCartney in Newcastle (Didn't Play Mull Of Kintyre) and the construction of his local library (Construction's Going On).

Jerrah is noted for his whimsical style and beautiful harmonies from previous albums Going Places and Sounds Like Rain.

He has recorded at the Opera House, played live at festivals, performed for Governor-General Sam Mostyn and provided music for the “one take romcom” Head Over Wheels and children’s program Fizzy & Suds.

Jerrah works at the Club Weld studio for neurodiverse artists in Parramatta, NSW.

“Jerrah Patston is a wonderful and inventive songwriter, and his music is one of [Radio National] The Music Show's discovery highlights this year. His songs contain witty observations about everyday life, catchy melodies and harmonies, and clever songwriting structures. I am very grateful to Club Weld for providing musicians like Jerrah with an opportunity and platform to write, arrange and record their original music—the Australian music landscape is all the richer for it.” - Ellie Parnell, Radio National.
