Book Condition:  Very good condition; large quatro; half leather case bound book with marbled edges; half bound with calfskin and with gilt lettering and raised bands on spine; minor losses and slight discolouration to front cover and minor foxing to pages (see photos); previoiusly owned by Mr Mark Briant of Uxbridge, England. 

The Carpenter & Joiner's Assistant is a comprehensive treatise of the "selection, preparation and strength of materials and the mechanical principles of framing with their applications in carpentry, joinery and hand-railing" by James Newlands, including an illustrated glossary of terms used in architecture and building, illustrated by an extensive series of plates and "many hundred engravings on wood". At over 290 pages, it is a definitive reference book, first published in 1860.
