Beautiful Dreamer is a two-part guitar suite by Loren Connors, dedicated to the late poet Steve Dalachinsky — a singular figure in New York’s avant-garde scene and a close friend of Connors. Recorded shortly before Dalachinsky’s passing in September 2019, these solo improvisations were later transformed in post-production into an ethereal, immersive soundwork.
The album retains Connors’ signature ghostly blues tone while exploring new terrain: slow, shifting layers unfold like a small choir, from rumbling baritones to shimmering sopranos. The result is both haunting and meditative, reflecting the spirit of Dalachinsky’s poetry and the contemplative mood captured on the album cover, featuring a suspended Auguste Rodin dancer.
Beautiful Dreamer stands as a tribute to creativity, friendship, and the transformative power of music, marking a distinctive new direction in Connors’ long and innovative career in avant-garde guitar composition.
