The Beatles - "Sgt Peppers" Original Australian 1st. Press with Imported U.K. Stereo Sleeve: PCSO 7027
Silver Parlophone and A.K.A. "Banner" STEREO label.
The label has a second line of rim print reading, "Made in Australia by EMI (Australia) Limited."
Imported UK stereo sleeve; wide spine; cutout sheet and "Fool" inner sleeve.
In 1967, EMI (Australia) did not have the facilities to replicate gatefold sleeves or print album inserts, so both were imported from the UK. It appears that at least two separate import batches were received from the UK; the first, just prior to release, consisted of original "widespine" sleeves (with "Patents Pending" text on the rear); the second batch, received sometime during 1968, were the normal-width spine sleeves (without the "Patents Pending" text).
Around the end of February 1969, EMI (Australia) had exhausted their stock of imported 'stereo' sleeves and so began housing stereo pressings in the remaining 'mono' sleeves, onto which were affixed black/white 'STEREO' stickers. This practice remained until December 1969, when EMI (Australia) replaced the gatefold sleeve with a locally made single sleeve.
