Book Condition:  Both volumes Near Fine.  Two volumes in black cloth boards with gold lettering to spine, together in black cloth slip case. Slip case slightly sunned on front, top and back, with three small spots of wear on spine; top and bottom corners of right edge of spine lightly rubbed (see photos)

The manuscript is No. 133 of a limited edition of 550 copies.  It is a facsimile printing of "Select Specimens from Nature of the Birds, Animals of New South Wales" compiled by Thomas Skottowe, Commandant of the penal colony of Newcastle in 1813, and illustrated by convict artist, Robert Browne.  The first volume reproduces the original (unrestored), beautifully illustrated manuscript in the Mitchell Library collection including many full-page colour plates of native animals. The second volume has extensive notes, commentary and references.
